South Carolina Infrastructure Maintenance Fee
For a vehicle titled and registered in South Carolina, the Infrastructure Maintenance Fee is 5% of purchase price after a qualifying trade-in, capped at $500. It applies to vehicle titling/registration rather than as an uncapped general vehicle sales tax.
Title and registration
The calculator includes the $15 title fee and $40 standard passenger registration baseline, plus current alternative-fuel/hybrid road-use additions when selected. County personal-property tax must be paid before registration and is intentionally left external.
Worked example
A $30,000 vehicle with a $5,000 qualifying trade-in produces a $25,000 IMF base, but 5% exceeds the $500 statutory cap, so the IMF is $500.
