Virginia Motor Vehicle Sales and Use Tax
Virginia charges 4.15% of gross sales price or $75, whichever is greater. Gross sales price is after rebates or incentives but is not reduced by trade-in credit, liens or other unpaid credits.
Title and registration
The calculator includes the $15 title fee. Passenger registration is weight-based and the Highway Use Fee can apply to fuel-efficient and electric vehicles, so exact registration remains external.
Worked example
A very low-price taxable transfer still owes at least $75 of Virginia Motor Vehicle Sales and Use Tax unless exempt.
