Vermont Purchase and Use Tax
Vermont applies 6% to the greater of purchase price or J.D. Power clean trade-in value, then subtracts a qualifying trade-in or other allowable credit. An accepted dealer appraisal can support a lower value.
Title and registration
The calculator includes the $42 title fee and current one-year passenger registration by fuel, including the BEV/PHEV infrastructure fee where applicable.
Worked example
If purchase price is $20,000, J.D. Power clean trade-in value is $23,000 and the qualifying trade-in is $5,000, the modeled tax base is $18,000.
