West Virginia titling sales tax
West Virginia currently uses a 6% titling sales tax/consumers sales and service tax for motor vehicles; older privilege-tax terminology is obsolete. Dealer trade-in credit can reduce taxable value, while manufacturer rebates remain taxable. Private used sales can be reviewed against NADA Clean Loan value, with stricter treatment for vehicles two years old or newer.
Title and registration
The calculator includes the $15 title fee and $51.50 standard passenger registration. Private prices below 50% of NADA can require a notarized bill of sale or full-book-value treatment, so those cases are flagged for external confirmation.
