Pennsylvania state guide
Pennsylvania vehicle sales/use tax
Pennsylvania generally applies 6% sales/use tax, 7% for Allegheny County residents, and 8% for Philadelphia residents. A qualifying trade-in reduces taxable purchase price. The calculator does not deduct a manufacturer rebate from the tax base.
Title and registration
The calculator includes the $72 title fee and $48 passenger registration baseline. For 2026, EVs add a $250 annual road-user charge and plug-in hybrids add $63. County local-use and agent/transaction fees can still apply.
Worked example
Outside Philadelphia and Allegheny County, a $30,000 purchase with a $5,000 qualifying trade-in uses a $25,000 base before the 6% state rate.
