Oregon state guide
Oregon Vehicle Privilege Tax / Vehicle Use Tax
Oregon has no ordinary sales tax. A 0.5% vehicle privilege or use tax applies only when all statutory vehicle and dealer-sale eligibility conditions are met. Trade-ins and cash down do not reduce retail sales price, while separately stated discounts or rebates do.
Title and registration
Passenger title fees are $101, $106, $116 or $192 depending on MPG/electric status. Two-year passenger registration is $126, $136, $216 or $376 when not enrolled in OReGO; a new passenger vehicle with an MCO receives four-year registration. County and plate fees can apply.
Worked example
A qualifying new dealer vehicle priced at $35,000 with a $1,000 separately stated rebate uses $34,000 for the 0.5% special vehicle tax; an ordinary private sale does not use this tax.
