Ohio state guide
Ohio vehicle sales and use tax
Ohio applies 5.75% state tax plus the applicable county/transit rate. A trade-in credit reduces taxable price for a new motor vehicle sold by a new-motor-vehicle dealer; used dealer and private sales do not receive that new-vehicle trade deduction. Manufacturer rebates reimbursed to the dealer remain in price.
Title and registration
The calculator uses the $18 statutory title baseline, noting that an authorized county title add-on can raise it, and a $36 passenger registration baseline plus current hybrid, plug-in-hybrid or EV additions. Local permissive tax and deputy-registrar fees can still apply.
Worked example
A new dealer sale can subtract a qualifying trade-in before applying the combined rate; the same trade-in input is not deducted on a used dealer sale.
