Florida state guide
Florida sales tax and county surtax
Florida applies 6% state sales tax plus county discretionary surtax based on the purchaser’s residence. For motor vehicles, the discretionary surtax applies only to the first $5,000 of taxable sales price. Qualifying trade-ins reduce taxable price.
Title and registration
The standard electronic title amount is included. Registration varies by vehicle class/weight and whether the $225 initial registration fee applies, so registration remains an external/manual estimate.
Worked example
A $30,000 vehicle with a $5,000 qualifying trade-in has a $25,000 state-tax base; county surtax applies only to the first $5,000.
