Hawaii GET is a business tax
Hawaii General Excise Tax is imposed on the business rather than directly on the customer. A dealer may choose to pass GET through, so the calculator does not automatically label a GET pass-through as buyer sales tax; enter a dealer-provided amount manually when applicable.
Title and registration
Motor vehicle registration is county administered and commonly depends on vehicle weight plus county charges. Title and registration are therefore treated as external/manual amounts.
Worked example
A dealer may separately disclose a GET pass-through, but that charge is not the same as a statutory retail sales tax imposed on the buyer.
