Kentucky Motor Vehicle Usage Tax
Kentucky levies a 6% Motor Vehicle Usage Tax rather than ordinary sales tax. New-vehicle purchases can receive trade-in allowance. Used vehicles are subject to official consideration and NADA valuation safeguards.
Title and registration
County clerks collect title, registration and license fees in addition to usage tax. Those transaction-specific charges remain external/manual.
Worked example
A new vehicle purchase can apply a qualifying trade-in before calculating the 6% usage tax; used vehicles may be reviewed against official valuation rules.
