Maine sales tax and trade-ins
Maine applies 5.5% sales/use tax to motor vehicles. A qualifying motor-vehicle trade-in reduces the taxable selling price.
Title and registration
The calculator includes the $33 title fee, $35 standard passenger registration and municipal excise tax calculated from original MSRP and vehicle age.
Worked example
A first-year $30,000 MSRP vehicle has a municipal excise component based on the first-year 0.0240 rate before standard registration.
